Below you will find instructions guiding you through the step by step process of setting up your Windows Media Encoder.

These instructions are for Clients that want to encode their content into a Windows Media Format. Please take your time and follow through each step to get started. If you have any problems or issues please give us a call and we will be glad to help. If you would prefer to have us encode your content please review our Encoding Rates.

To encode your Windows Media content for our streaming media servers you must first install an encoding program that is able to encode your media in a Windows Media streaming format. Windows Media Encoder is a free Encoder by Microsoft that can be downloaded here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/encoder/default.aspx

Once you have Windows Media Encoder installed, open it and select "convert a file".

Next you will need to select your media file that you wish to encode to a streaming media format, to do this, click on "Browse" next to the "Source File" field, and browse to your file. You can select where you want your file to be saved at in the "Output file" field. Click "Next".

In this next section ( How do you want to distribute your content ), you will want to select Windows Media server ( streaming ). Click "Next".

In this section ( How do you want to encode your audio and video? ), you will select what bitrate(s) you wish to encode your media at. The drop downs will be defaulted at "Multiple Bitrates", this means that you will be able to select more than one bitrate to encode your media at. The higher the bitrate, the higher quality your media will look/sound, however it will also take a faster Internet connection for someone to be able to view/listen to the media. An average high end video bitrate for high speed Internet connections would be in the 300kbps range, and an average low would be in the 56kbps range. For audio only files the average high end bitrate would be in the 100kbps range, and the low end would be in the 20kbps range. The higher the bitrates you choose, the larger your file size will be once your media is encoded. Once finished here, click "Next".

In this section, you are given the option to input your display information. You do not have to fill any of the fields here out, however if you decide to do so, it will be displayed on the media player when someone watches/listens to your media. Click "Finish".

Click "Start Encoding" at the top of the encoder window to start converting your file.
